Meet the new Nokia G42, purple and fixable

Nokia Mobile announced a new G series smartphone Nokia G42. This one is bringing a previously used but now refreshed Snapdragon 480+ 5G processor that should make the phone fluid and take good shots with a 50 MP main camera. Nokia Mobile continued its partnership with iFixit which means that G42 will be repairable just as G22.

The parts you’ll be able to change are the display, battery and charging port and all will be available at the iFixit webshop. The display will cost you £44.99, the battery  £22.99 and the charging port is the cheapest part at £18.99. We only have the prices for the UK, but you can easily convert the pounds to another currency to get an idea about the price. At-home Fit Kits are also available for £5 on the iFixit website.

So, while I’m not impressed with SD480+ in the G series, nor with the 2 MP worthless macro camera, 8 MP selfie shooter, and low internal memory, I am impressed with the support for 1TB of SD cards, camera features, 5000 mAh batter and numerous sensors and features. However, Nokia G42 5G is built to last just as any other device and it has been tested for durability against the standard everyday beatings, and IP52 helps also.

The device will be coming with 3 years of monthly security updates and 2 years of OS upgrades which is a standard for the G series. Since G42 is bringing Android 13 out of the box this means that versions 14 and 15 are guaranteed.

Whoever likes this phone, it will be available in the UK upon the announcement in Purple and in 6/128GB storage and memory configurations for £199 from Nokia.com/phones. While the device isn’t coming with a charging brick, the good thing is that its box will suit a  lightweight clear case made of recycled plastic. It is worth mentioning that the back cover is made of 65% recycled material which shows Nokia Mobile’s dedication to a greener way of making smartphones.

By the way, If you are not a fan of the Purple colour,  Nokia Mobile said that the Pink and Grey versions will be coming soon.
