No NFC for Nokia 6.2 and 7.2 in India *UPDATED*

UPDATE: HMD’s CPO Juho Sarvikas confirmed via Twitter that NFC will be available in the US and Latin America. There is an error in the specs sheet.

Nokia Mobile announced this week two new midrange smartphones – Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2. Both smartphones look nicely designed and come in attractive colors. They also have a triple camera setup on the back and FullHD+ screens with AutoHDR.

There are a lot of things that everyone won’t like about the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2, for example the use of older Snapdragon chipsets. Personally, I was more confused by the lack of NFC on the devices in selected regions.

As we mentioned in the intro articles about the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2, and thanks to the data sheet HMD provided to us, only SKU1 of both the Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 7.2 comes with NFC. For Nokia 6.2, SKU2 is designated for Latin America, while SKU3 is for India. With the Nokia 7.2, the SKU2 is for Latin America and the United States, while the SKU3 is again for the Indian market. The lack of NFC for selected regions is confirmed by Nokia Mobile’s official website for devices.

In Europe, NFC is really important because services like Google Pay, that are becoming increasingly popular, relay on NFC, as well as local solutions from banks and smaller companies. I don’t know what is the situation regarding NFC payments in the US, Latin America or India, so do let us know in the comments if you have more insights.

NFC is also convenient when pairing wireless accessories and data transfer, and is a nice to have connectivity option in general. The old Nokia was one of the first companies that made NFC “mainstream” on smartphones, creating tags and accessories that supported NFC. If I’m not wrong, Symbian Belle devices like Nokia 701 and MeeGo-powered Nokia N9 were some of the early adopters of NFC. Wireless charging is also a segment Nokia pushed with Lumia devices, and something I miss on midrange Nokia phones now as well.
