Nokia to start manufacturing broadband network electronics product in the US

Nokia announced this week that the company will start manufacturing broadband network electronics products in the United States. This move is requirement to be part of the Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program for which 42.45 billion dollars is allocated by the US government.

In partnership with Sanmina Corporation, Nokia will manufacture several fiber-optic broadband products at Sanmina’s manufacturing facility located in Pleasant Prairie, Kenosha County, Wisconsin, that should bring up to 200 new jobs to the state. Manufacturing is expected to start in 2024, with plans to also manufacture optical modules that should bring additional high-tech jobs to the States.

Nokia’s move was closely followed by the US leaders. President Biden’s X account tweeted about Nokia’s move, while vice president Kamala Harris took part in the announcement conference, together with Nokia’s CEO Pekka Lundmark.
