Ericsson and Nokia are leading the 5G network market

A recent report from Counterpoint Research shows that 5G networks are progressing well. The transition from 5G non-standalone to 5G standalone is being driven by network companies rolling out new 5G deployments in emerging markets. Currently, 42 operators have commercially deployed 5G SA, and many more are testing and evaluating it.

The deployment of 5G SA is led by Asia Pacific, followed by North America and Europe. The Middle East, Africa and Latin America lag behind. Counterpoint also stated that most operators are deploying 5G SA in mid- band (e.g., n78). Few operators are using sub-1GHz and millimetre wave bands.

The report said Ericsson and Nokia lead the 5G SA core market worldwide, with Ericsson taking the top position. Geopolitical sanctions imposed on Huawei and ZTE have benefited these companies the most in some markets. Samsung and NEC are following and trying to expand their reach into emerging markets, although they are focusing on local markets.
