Android 8.1 Oreo update for Nokia 2 not available at the moment *Update*

The only Nokia smartphone that hasn’t been updated to Pie is Nokia 2. This phone was the first try from HMD Global to create an ultra-affordable smartphone. Nokia 2 came with 1 GB of RAM and Android Nougat which was able to run on that configuration. Unfortunately, this happened before the announcement of Android GO which was specifically designed for 1 GB RAM devices. HMD did manage to create Android™ 8.1 Oreo™ update for this device, but some specific conditions were needed to be fulfilled before you can download the update for Nokia 2. The update has to be pre-approved by your carrier and allowed for your market. Unfortunately, many can’t download the update but that was explained in the previous post which you can check here.

Our reader Krishna tipped us (Cheers for this!) on Twitter that the 8.1 Oreo update for Nokia 2 was temporarily suspended by HMD, and it’s not available at the moment. Currently, we are not able to say why is the update stopped, but we’ll get into this and report back when we get new info.

Well, maybe it is for the best since Android 8.1 is designed specifically for devices with more powerful hardware. Even though HMD did adjust 8.1 Oreo update, Nokia 2 wouldn’t work as well as on Nougat and some apps would stop functioning.

Check Nokia Mobile Beta Labs web page for more info on the subject. They explained it well there.

*Update* Here is the explanation for the temporarily removed Oreo Build update.
