Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 to continue receiving security updates till late 2020
Nokia Mobile just announced via the Community Forum that the first generation of Nokia Android smartphones, the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 will continue receiving security updates in their 3rd year of being on the market.
A sad news is that the updates for Nokia 2 will conclude with November 2019, while Nokia 3, 5, 6 and 8 will continue receiving updates on a quarterly level. The quarterly update will include all security patches from previous three months. The update timetable looks like this:
Quarterly security update switch dates:
- Nokia 3 will be the first model to start receiving updates quarterly from September 2019 until September 2020
- Nokia 5 – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 6* – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
- Nokia 8 – Quarterly patch begins from October 2019 until October 2020
*For users of Nokia 2, the security patch support will conclude in November 2019
**For users of Nokia 6 Amazon (USA and India), the security patch support will conclude in October 2019
This is a great move by Nokia Mobile that continues to provide security updates beyond the initial declared period for almost all of the Gen 1 device, except the Nokia 2. Nokia 2 still got a 2-year update support, which is more than most phones from competitors get, but it’s certainly a not so good news to Nokia 2 owners that they are the first that will lose support.
Anyways, good job Nokia Mobile in keeping Nokia Android phones up to date.
