Video: Why MeeGo is the best OS I’ve ever used

While we are on the Android is lame hype train, I booted up my Nokia N9 the other day and was trying to remember why I fell in love with that device so much. For me, it’s easily my favourite Nokia device I have ever used. It’s easy to understand once you actually hold the N9; its hardware is simply superb. In a way no other phone that came before or after is. It manages to combine elegance, durability, ergonomics, and timelessness, a combination which no other phone has managed to achieve. But that’s only part of the reason the N9 is so special to me, and the other huge part of course lies in MeeGo Harmattan, which this phone debuted with and no other phone after it followed suit. (Shout out to anyone who managed to get their hands on the N950. You lucky bastards).

So in this video I talk about 10 reasons why I think MeeGo Harmattan is the best operating system I have ever used. The video is below:

What is sad is that the Nokia N9 wasn’t a phone sold globally because Nokia prioritized the newly announced Lumia range in key markets. Many people never heard of this phone or managed to use it. Fabula design might have been popularized by Lumia, but the N9 is the cornerstone that led to 3 years of some of the most stunning phone designs. iOS and Android have clumsily adopted swipe gestures for the last 3 years, a mere 7 years after the N9 showed the world how outdated hardware buttons are. Making full use of OLED displays for a clean dark mode look? N9 was there first. Utilizing a flat modern design with a clean font throughout the whole UI? N9 was there first. Perfecting the haptic engine for the ultimate software typing experience? N9 was there first. Real multitasking with a live customizable view? No one has caught up yet. I think you get the gist. The next time you wonder how Android and iOS can innovate, remember the N9!
